Dr. Neal Guffey brings a diverse and well-rounded background to the field of addiction medicine. Raised in Fez, Morocco, he developed a deep appreciation for different cultures before returning to the United States, where he attended prep school in New England. Summers spent working on a tobacco farm in rural North Carolina instilled in him a strong work ethic and a profound understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in different walks of life.

Dr. Guffey pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by medical school at East Carolina University. He then completed his residency at the Medical College of Virginia, developing expertise across multiple medical disciplines, including internal medicine, anesthesiology, hospice and palliative care, and addiction medicine.

For the past decade, Dr. Guffey has been extensively involved in medications for addiction treatment (MAT) and addiction medicine, helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of substance use recovery. He finds immense fulfillment in supporting his patients on their journeys toward healing and long-term wellness. His compassionate, patient-centered approach ensures that those under his care receive both medical expertise and unwavering support.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Guffey is passionate about family, skiing, mountain biking, and landscaping. When he’s not in the office, you’re likely to find him riding his bike, planting trees, or planning his next outdoor adventure—always embracing life with energy and enthusiasm.
