Healing Mind, Body, and Spirit at Nova Transformations
A Luxury Healing Experience
At Nova Transformations, we understand that recovery from addiction requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the whole person. We offer somatic therapy as part of our substance use treatment program in Charlotte, North Carolina. This approach represents a powerful component of our holistic treatment philosophy, offering clients a transformative practice that bridges the gap between physical wellness and emotional healing.
Integrated seamlessly into our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), somatic therapy provides our clients with essential tools for managing stress, reconnecting with their bodies, and developing sustainable recovery practices that extend well beyond their time in treatment.
Transformative Healing
Somatic therapy in addiction treatment focuses on the profound connection between body and mind. This evidence-based therapeutic approach combines various body-centered practices—including yoga, breathwork, movement therapy, and other mindfulness techniques—specifically adapted to address the unique challenges faced by individuals recovering from substance use disorders.
At Nova Transformations, our somatic therapy sessions are thoughtfully designed to:
What makes our approach unique is its highly collaborative nature. We recognize that each person’s recovery journey is unique, which is why we offer a variety of somatic modalities—from gentle yoga practices to more dynamic movement therapies—tailored to what our client population finds most engaging and preferred. This personalized approach ensures that every participant can find the somatic practices that resonate most deeply with their healing process.
Discover and Heal
Somatic therapy offers unique advantages for individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-existing mental health conditions. The following key benefits make somatic therapy a powerful component of comprehensive addiction treatment:
Substance use disorders significantly disrupt the brain’s natural chemistry and reward systems. Somatic therapy helps restore this balance by:
1. Stimulating the production of natural endorphins and dopamine
2. Reducing cortisol levels and stress hormones that can trigger cravings
3. Activating the parasympathetic nervous system to promote relaxation and healing
4. Improving sleep quality, which is essential for neurological recovery
Many individuals struggling with addiction also face co-occurring mental health challenges. Our approach to somatic therapy provides evidence-based support for:
1. Reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression
2. Managing PTSD and trauma responses through gentle, trauma-informed practices
3. Improving emotional regulation and distress tolerance
4. Building resilience against negative thought patterns that can contribute to relapse
Addiction often involves automatic behaviors and disconnection from the present moment. Somatic therapy cultivates mindfulness by:
1. Teaching clients to observe physical sensations, thoughts, and feelings without immediate reaction
2. Creating awareness of the body’s signals and emotional states
3. Providing practical tools for interrupting craving cycles
4. Fostering a non-judgmental attitude toward recovery challenges
Substance use takes a significant toll on physical health. Somatic therapy supports physical recovery by:
1. Increasing strength and flexibility gradually and safely through practices like yoga
2. Improving cardiovascular health and circulation through mindful movement
3. Enhancing respiratory function through breathing practices
4. Addressing physical pain and discomfort that might otherwise trigger medication-seeking
Isolation is both a cause and consequence of addiction. Group somatic therapy sessions at Nova Transformations foster meaningful connections by:
1. Creating shared experiences in a supportive environment
2. Providing opportunities for appropriate physical presence with others
3. Demonstrating that vulnerability can be met with acceptance and support
4. Building a sense of belonging critical to sustained recovery
An Elevated Treatment Experience
